The Moon of the Mind: Gemini

Preparing for Winter

The full moon, rising around this time, mirrors the duality of this seasons lessons—where the outer world cools and calms, while our inner world may still be buzzing with thoughts, ideas, and the need for movement. For instance, maybe we’re feeling rushed to get everything done before the Gregorian calendar winds us down to the end of the year which can have us feeling scatterbrained and lost. This season often brings an increase in anxiety, overthinking, or restlessness, especially if we feel overwhelmed by responsibilities or upcoming holiday preparations. If we fail to balance our mental activity, we may experience burnout, fatigue, or respiratory imbalances.

Finding Peace in a Restless Mind

The spiritual lessons of this full moon revolve around balance and adaptability. Gemini asks us to be versatile and flexible, learning to embrace life's unpredictability. Sagittarius, on the other hand, encourages us to seek out truth and meaning, helping us bridge the gap between restless thoughts and soulful understanding.

During this time, you might find yourself really examining the balance between your mind and body, logic and intuition, and how you communicate your deeper truths to others. The Gemini full moon challenges us to be open, transparent, and honest in our interactions while also being receptive to new perspectives.

A Healthy Body

Gemini rules the lungs, shoulders, arms, and nervous system. It’s a time when the air element is heightened, and our mental and physical energy may feel scattered. The focus on the lungs also connects this time to our ability to breathe deeply and allow space for stillness. The digestive system, ruled by Sagittarius, is another area to be mindful of. As the fire sign, Sagittarius encourages the burning off of excess mental and emotional energy, but if we overindulge or do not tend to our inner fire properly, it can lead to digestive issues or overexertion. Here are some of our favorite herbs to work with during this moon:

  • Mullein: Known for its soothing effects on the lungs, mullein is excellent for maintaining respiratory health, especially during the colder months when the air is drier. It helps open the airways and clear congestion, making it easier to breathe deeply. You can use mullein in teas or as a tincture to support lung health.

  • Lemon balm: This herb is gentle on the nervous system, offering calming effects that help alleviate anxiety and mental tension. It’s particularly helpful for overthinking or insomnia brought on by an overactive mind. Drink lemon balm tea regularly to soothe the nerves and bring mental clarity.

  • Licorice root: Licorice root supports both the respiratory and digestive systems, making it an excellent herb for this time of year. It coats and soothes the lungs while also helping to regulate digestion. Licorice can be taken as a tea, tincture, or added to herbal blends for its harmonizing effects.

  • Ginger: A warming herb, ginger is especially helpful for stimulating digestion and circulation. It helps the body process heavier winter foods while also invigorating the senses. Ginger tea or fresh ginger in meals will warm the body and keep digestion smooth.

  • Elecampane: This herb is another great ally for the lungs, especially when there is a need to clear mucus or support respiratory function. Elecampane has a grounding, earthy quality that helps us reconnect with our breath. It can be used in teas or tinctures to strengthen the lungs.
