Chiron in Aries 2018-2027: Alchemizing Pain into Power

a man walking into a storm of power

Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac, is known for its fiery spirit and unwavering courage.

It embodies the essence of the self, helping us to learn more about our how we can assert our needs, how we identify, and our ability to initiate action.

The arrival of the asteroid Chiron into this sign from 2018- 2027 gives us the opportunity to confront and heal the aspects of ourselves that have long needed attention when it comes to our identity or the way we find our way in the world.

The story of Chiron in Aries speaks to a warrior's journey— battling internal and external demons, and emerging stronger. This sounds scary but thankfully, Aries also inspires the bravery we need to face our vulnerabilities, and gives us the determination to heal them.

During this transit, we can feel like we are called to communicate more directly with our “higher self”, called to rediscover our inner strength, assert our truth, and empower others through our stories.

Bridging Worlds: A Planet and a Comet

the orbit of chiron between saturn and uranus

Discovered in 1977 by Charles Kowal, Chiron's classification as both a comet and a minor planet makes it pretty special.

Its orbit, nestled between Saturn and Uranus, is very comet-like behavior, especially when it approaches the Sun and and shows us a faint coma, or atmosphere. However, it’s gigantic size also places it into the category of a small planet.

Because of this, Chiron's discovery led to the identification of a new class of objects known as Centaurs, named for the horse-men that embody the connection between man and animal, the beast and the divine.

And here is where the science beautifully mirrors the spiritual lessons.

Just as Chiron the centaur walks the realms of both the mortal and the holy, Chiron the Minor Planet travels the space between Saturn, the planet of structure and lessons, and Uranus, the planet of change and liberation. This speaks to the potential for deep personal transformation we can unlock when we break free from past wounds and embrace an identity and purpose more true to ourselves. Perhaps this is why Chiron’s symbol in the chart is that of a key.

The Birth of the Healer

Chiron’s story begins with pain. He was a product of rape, a forced encounter between the Titan Cronus and the Nymph Philyra.

Wishing to hide his salacious desires from his wife, Cronus transformed himself into a horse and assaulted Philyra, leading to the birth of Chiron—a being unlike any other, half-horse, half-God.

Distraught by her child’s form and traumatizing conception, Philyra asked the God’s to permanently transform her life so she would no longer have to bear the pain. They granted her wish, and she became a linden tree, leaving her son without nurturing care from birth.

In abandoning Chiron, she also left him to navigate the rest of his life straddling the two realms: that of man and the divine. This rejection was not because of Chiron’s appearance, though his parents may have insisted that was the reason. It was actually a projected rejection of themselves.

While Philyra’s behavior may seem difficult to understand, abandonment or rejection is a common trauma response. When people feel wronged by their place or circumstances in life, they will frequently express this by rejecting or finding flaws in everything around them. This can even look like putting the burden on their children to live up to their parent’s unrealized potential, and rejecting them for falling short.

Despite this inauspicious start, Chiron was a demi-God, and his heritage left him with remarkable gifts. Raised by the Sun God Apollo, he became skilled in the healing arts, prophecy, music, and hunting—skills that would define his legacy. Unlike other centaurs known for their unruly nature, Chiron was wise, kind, and just, embodying the lessons of the God who mentored him.

The Gift of Knowledge

As a result, Chiron's home on Mount Pelion became a well known sanctuary of learning and healing.

Heroes and Gods came to be tutored and counseled by him. Among them were familiar names like Achilles and Hercules, to whom Chiron taught, not just the knowledge of the outside world, but also the wisdom of the spirit.

Through his teachings, Chiron emphasized the importance of compassion and the strength we can find in acknowledging, exploring, and mastering our vulnerabilities.

Chiron's abandonment and the rejection by his mother can be seen as metaphor of the deep-seated traumas that many of us experience during our childhood years. These early events, especially those of neglect, rejection, or feeling different, can leave lasting scars that shape our identity, our relationships, and our path in life.

Chiron's story teaches us that while we cannot change our beginnings, we always have the power to transform our pain into something beautiful.

Transforming Our Wounds

The famed healer’s life took another tragic turn when he was accidentally wounded by a poisoned arrow, shot by his own student, Hercules.

The arrow, dipped in the lethal blood of the Hydra, opened a gash that would not heal, making Chiron's immortality a curse that would not allow him to escape his pain through death.

He carried this wound for the rest of his life, and it became the crucible for the Mentor to live his most profound teachings from childhood. He now had to not just teach, but show us by example how healing comes from understanding and integrating our deepest pains.

Chiron in Aries: Courage Nourished by Pain

When Chiron moves into Aries, it shines a light on the very foundation of our being—our sense of self.

This transit’s energy becomes a mirror, reflecting the wounds we carry as people and as a society. Maybe we've struggled with expressing ourselves fully, or allowed past rejections to make us doubt our value and all that we’re capable of.

Chiron in Aries will not let us ignore these issues, not to force us to dwell in them, but to understand where they’ve come from, and how to work towards healing them. One of the most empowering messages of this transit is that acknowledging our weaknesses doesn’t diminish our strength; rather, it opens the door to genuine growth and self-acceptance.

When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we tap into a type of resilience and courage we may not have known we had, repressed by pain, denial, and a society that did not show us how to work within it. This also challenges us to redefine what it means to be strong, showing us that it is a power that comes, not from the ego or a desire to be the best, but from the wisdom to know we have what it takes to make it through. Of knowing that what we’re fighting for is rightfully ours, and worth the battle.

The Fight for Racial and Political Equality

The global struggle for racial equality is maybe one of the most potent expressions of Aries' call to confront and dismantle that which holds us back.

Chiron's influence will bring to the forefront the deep, historical wounds inflicted by racial capitalism and colonialism, urging us as a global community to finally acknowledge and heal these scars. As advanced technology brings us into an even more intimately connected world, the pain of our ancestors and living neighbors are revealed to be a part of our current, collective story as well. We cannot hide from the truth.

During this transit, people will be unafraid to wear their ethnic, political, and gender identities proudly, and to challenge structures that continually discriminate against those who have endured generations of oppression. Libration is calling us.

Through protests, advocacy, and dialogue, people around the world can create movements that leverage Aries' assertiveness to demand justice and equality, showing the rest of us how healing can only begin with the courage to confront uncomfortable truths.

The Weight and Wisdom of Generational Trauma

a generation of family members walking into a spiritual portal of light

These truths are often rooted in our past, parts of the pain and power we inherited from birth, just like Chiron, because both the struggles and victories of our ancestors are interlaced within our very DNA.

In fact, new research suggests that a traumatic event experienced by one relative can impact the following seven generations. These wounds, whether they're from our own experiences or stories handed down to us, are like cryptic messages waiting to be deciphered.

They whisper to us of resilience, strength, and the human spirit's unyielding capacity to heal. Imagine now, instead of hiding these wounds away, we hold them up to the light, examining each one closely. This act of brave scrutiny is what allows for the process of transformation to begin. This can allow us to see ourselves as the bearers of an indomitable legacy, equipped with an inherited strength to face our own challenges.

This journey might lead us into therapy sessions, quiet moments of reflection, or even conversations with family. Each step, each effort to understand and heal our wounds, is like shedding a layer of weight we've been carrying. As we venture further, we also begin to rewrite the narrative for future generations. The wounds, that once felt like heavy stones, become the foundation upon which we build a legacy of healing and hope. This is how we break the cycle, ensuring that the what is handed to the next in line is a little lighter, brighter, and more just.

Chiron North Node Conjunction 2024

This powerful alignment will happen on Feburary 19th, 2024, right after the beginning of our spiritually cleansing season in Pisces.

The "old worries and beliefs" that have been on repeat are revealed to be heavy chains, limiting our movement and stifling our growth. The energy of Aries, fueled by the conjunction, inspires us to finally act against these restraints.

During this time we may feel like we suddenly see a way out of a labyrinth that's kept us trapped, maybe for years.

We're also drawn to those who've faced their battles and emerged not only intact, but empowered—leaders who can navigate personal and collective wounds with wisdom and empathy.

From his first moments, Chiron was different. Born half-horse, half-human, his very existence was a study in resilience, navigating a world where he didn't fully belong to either of his parent's realms. But, just as Chiron used his unique position to become a loved healer and teacher, we can also use our diverse backgrounds and experiences to offer fresh perspectives and bridge gaps in communities. It is a story that encourages us to embrace our full selves, to turn our trials into triumphs, and to emerge from our challenges with renewed strength and wisdom.
